REPUDIATION OF LOANS
ALLEGED GERMAN THREAT. MR M. NORMAN'S MISSION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON. January 13. The "Daily Herald" alleges that Mr Montagu -Norman, Governor of the Bank of England, went to Berlin because of a threat by Germany to force a crisis among a group of private British banks by repudiating the £40,000,000 short term loans owing by Germany unless Dr Schacht’s refugee plan was supported. The newspaper adds that Mr Norman will probably try to launch a deal for assisting the German export trade with the ostensible object of helping the Jews to emigrate.
