SHOW ARRANGEMENTS
MEETING OF MASTERTON ASSOCIATION.
VISIT OF GOVERNOR-GENERAL.
For the second time in about twenty years the Masterton A. and P. Association's annual show, to be held in February, will be favoured with a visn from his Excellency, the GovernorGeneral. Advice was received at last night's meeting of the committee that Lord Galway would attend the next fixture. He will be invited to open
the Show officially after lunch on the second day. The president, Mr .P. R. Welch, occupied the chair and there was a good attendance of members. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, wrote regretting that he would be unable to attend the Show, but stated that he would be pleased to pass the invitation on to his colleagues. The British Trade Commissioner, Mr R. Boulter, advised that his new assistant, Mr A. G. Deuber, would visit the Show.
After a lengthy discussion on the question of the proposed centennial memorial gales, it was decided that a special meeting of the committee be held on the grounds on January 29 when the whole question of costs and other details would be fully considered. The Department of Agriculture wrote stating that it would consider an application for, an exhibit at the 1940 Masterton Show.
Reports of the ground and the finance committees were adopted and accounts amounting to £l9O were passed. Seven new members were elected.
It was resolved to hold a meeting of the night show committee at an early date to complete arrangements for the night gathering. The usual special meeting of stewards and members of the committee will be held on Wednesday, February 1.
It vzas decided that the stock gates be closed at 10 a.m. on both days of •the Show.
In order to improve the working facilities of officials at the Show, it was decided to instal three more telephones connecting with the office, the centre of the ring and the announcer s stand.
On the first day the marshal stewards are to be asked to supply the announcer with particulars of the first prize winners in their classes so that these may be announced over the air during the parade on the second day.
Mr N. Blatchford was appointed marshall steward in the draught horse section.
