AND RAM FAIR. The annual ram fair held under the auspices of the Dannevirke A. and P. Association will be held on February 9, the day following the popular show of this progressive society, whose pastexhibitions have attained a high standard. All cattle competing in the purebred section —which embraces Shorthorns. Herefords, Aberdeen Angus, Red Polls. Ayrshires, Jerseys, Friesians and Milking Shorthorns, must be entered in or be eligible for entry in the respective herd book of the breed. There arc the usual 12 classes in most of these.’ but there are exception in regard to Jerseys and Friesians. For the former there are in all 23 classes, in which there are limitations respecting eightfive being open only to breeders in the Hawke’s Bay provincial district and three only to members of the Dannevirke District Jersey Cattle Club. There arc two valuable points prizes, one for open competition, the other limited to members of the Dannevirke District Jersey Cattle Club. In Friesians there are 14 classes, one of which is for heifers calved since Ist July, 1937. In this entries must be exhibited, but not necessarily bred, by a resident of the Hawke’s Bay provincial district. There is also a class for bull calf, to be led into the ring by a child under 16 years of age, the object being to encourage proper handling. There are also sections for dairy cattle and grade dairy cattle, also for members of the Boys’ and Girls’ Calf Rearing Club. There are five classes for these containing various conditions. There is wide scope in the cattle classes, and it is hoped to obtain substantial support from the district as well as outside owners and breeders. Entries close on January 24 with the show secretary, Box 38, Dannevirke.
