ECONOMIC WAR

ACTION AGAINST JAPAN SUGGESTED BRITAIN IN CONJUNCTION WITH U.S.A, & FRANCE. DOMINIONS CONSULTED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON. January 12. The Australian- Associated Press says that rumours, apparently officially inspired, are current that Britain, in conjunction with France and the United States of America, is on the verge of declaring an economic war against Japan. The United Kingdom has asked the Dominions, it is stated, what part they would play if economic sanctions are imposed. The subject was also raised during the Chamberlain-Daladier conversations in Paris. The United States Ambassador in London, Mr J. P. Kennedy, who is now on holiday in America, has conveyed to Washington the outline of Britain’s view, with the object of an AngloAmerican agreement on policy.
