CHILDREN STARVING

IN REPUBLICAN SPAIN THOUSANDS WITHOUT BREAD FOR WEEKS. NEED FOR OUTSIDE HELP. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received This Day, 9.5 a.m.) STOCKHOLM, January 13. “Nearly a million children of Republican Spain are actually starving,” declared Mr Malcolm Lilliehook, Commissioner of the International Commission for Assistance to Child Refugees. “Only 50 per cent out of four million have sufficient food to prevent physical degeneration. “Nationalist children require more fish liver oil and milk, while thousands of Republicans have not seen bread for weeks. Five hundred thousand, mostly two and four years old, are the most pressing cases which need outside help.”
