IMPROVEMENT IN PRICES

At the wool sales today. 11.280 bales were offered and 10.460 sold, also 794 privately. The improvement noted yesterday was accentuated today and the market can be quoted from, par to 5 per cent higher. Greasy merino made a new record of 25',d paid for five bales from Yass. DUNEDIN CHEQUE SMALLER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN. January 11. The easier state of the wool market is responsible for a decline in the revenue of Otago of about £lOO,OOO from the first wool sale of the season as compared with the first sale last season. At the last December sale 24,251 bales were offered, 23,429 being disposed of. and the gross proceeds amounted to £306,534, an average of 9.72 d a lb. and £l3 Is 3d a bale. The gross proceeds at the December sale, 1937. were £398.736. an average of 12.77 d a lb. and £l7 Is 6d a bale.
