Having gone without tobacco for a week to buy some prize Russel lupins, the gardener was annoyed to find that the caterpillars had a liking for the succulent leaves, and were soon feasting on them in large numbers. Soon, however, the sparrows found the caterpillars, and tore off the leaves in order to get at their prey, which made things no better. Matters improved, however, when the household cat took up his abode on the flower bed and proceeded to catch the sparrows which were catching the caterpillars, which were eating the leaves —and so ad infinitum Hood Aerodrome Activities. The following Hood aerodrome activities arc reported:—January 4: Mr J. Sievers flc-w to Wellington and returned the same day. January 8: Mr F. J. McDonald and Mr J. Hamill flew to Dannevirke and Mr McDonald carried out training at Dannevirke. and returned later in the day. Mr C. I. Price flew to Dannevirke the same day and returned to Masterton. January 9: Mr L.Loasby flew with a passenger in the Miles-Whitney Straight for Auckland, but returned to Palmerston North owing to bad weather, and flew back to Masterton the next day. January 11: Mr F. D. Stewart flew solo to Nelson and returned today. Mr. R. Armstrong left ibis', morning for Dannevirke and later re- i turned to Masterton. I
