GERMAN AIMS

SUPPORT FOR ITALY AGAINST FRANCE ASSURANCES BY BERLIN PRESS. HERR HITLER’S INTENTIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. LONDON, January 9. The- “Daily Telegraph’s” Berlin correspondent says that as Mr Chamberlain’s visit to Rome approaches, the Press stresses Germany’s readiness fully to support Italy against France. Importance is attached to Herr Funk’s presence in Rome, where, it is believed, he is discussing Italian and German economic co-operation in all eventualities.

The “Telegraph” adds that there is a growing feeling that the result of the talks between Colonel Beck (Polish Foreign Minister) and Herr Hitler may concentrate interest on Mediterannean Africa and West Europe rather than on East Europe and the Ukraine, the consequence of which may be a more abrupt demand for the return of colonies.
