OBITUARY
MR C. F. JOHNSTON. The death occurred in Feilding last week of Mr Charles Featherston Johnston, third son of the late Sir Charles and Lady Johnston, Wellington. Born in Wellington, Mr Johnston was educated at Stoneyhurst, England, and later attended Lincoln Agricultural College, Canterbury. At an early age he was placed in charge on the Johnston Estate, at Matakuna, East Coast, and before going to Feilding purchased a property at Gladstone. Wairarapa. Later he acquired Cotfield, at Makino, and subsequently the large Arawara station at Kimbolton. He was actively concerned in the management of these properties and in the breeding of his stock, being recognised as a thoroughly competent farmer and breeder by the success his methods and ideas achieved.
Mr Johnston was a noted Rugby footballer, and represented Wairarapa in his younger days. He also played a good game of cricket and tennis, and was a life member of the Feilding Jockey Club.
Mr Johnston served in the Great War with the Imperial Forces, and held a commission in the Oxford and Bucks Light. Infantry. Two brothers. Brigadier-General Earl Johnston, of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, and Captain O. Johnston, were killed in action in France.
Mr Johnston, who did not marry, is survived by two sisters, Mrs A. Duncan (Wellington), and Mrs GaythorneHardy (London), and three brothers. Messrs Guy F. Johnston (Wellington). lan F. Johnston (Wanganui), and My Justice Johnston (Harold). Wellington). Another sister. Mrs W. F. G. Levin (Bulls), predeceased him.
