LONDON QUOTATIONS. ADVANCE IN PRICE OF BUTTER. Now Zealand butter in London advanced a further 4s a cwt last week. The market closed firm after having been active throughout the week, according to the cabled report supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department to the Dairy Board. Friday's closing quotations. with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: — New Zealand: Salted, 116 s to 117 s (112 s a year ago, 112 s); unsalted, 119 s to 120 s (116 s year ago, 113 s to 114 s). Australian: Salted, 115 s to 116 s (110 s unsalted, 116 s to 117 s (112 s to 113 s). Argentine: Unsalted. 106 s to 112 s (102 s to 106 s). The retail price of New Zealand butter in London is Is 2d a lb. with Danish at Is sd.

The present price of 117 s is equal to approximately 13.95 d a lb f.o.b. New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 d a ]b f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124 s 3d a cwt. The equivalent price of cheese is about 7.97 d a lb f.o.b. compared with the guaranteed price of 8.42 d. Deliveries of New Zealand butter from store last week were 2185 tons, and the quantity in store last Friday was 4229 tons, against 3175 tons a year ago. Australian deliveries were 1576 tons, the quantity in store being 5055 tons, against 2744 tons a year ago. The Imperial Economic Committee’s estimated stocks of all butters in store was 509,308 boxes, compared with 238,878 boxes a year ago.

The cheese market continued firm, with little change in prices. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: — New Zealand: White and coloured. 69s to 70s (695; a year ago, 65s to 66s 6d). Deliveries of New Zealand cheese last week were 13,998 crates, the quantity in store being 43,174 crates, against 44,169 crates a year ago. Canadian deliveries totalled 6462 boxes, and the quantity in store was 150,439 boxes, compared with 134,070 boxes a year ago.
