Marylebone in the first innings against Eastern Province lost six wickets for 518 runs and declared (Hutton 202, Paynter 99, Hammond 52, Edrich 31, Bartlett, not out 35). The Eastern Province team in its second innings made 111 (Fames 2 for 14, Perks 3 for 29, Wright 4 for 39). Marylebone won by an innings and 235 runs.
Hutton and Paynter trounced the weak bowling. Hutton, who batted 167 minutes, hit two sixers and twentythree 4’s. Bartlett hit the fast bowler Ferreira for five successive 4’s.
