CARTERTON

BOWLING. RINK COMPETITION. ("Times-Age” Special.) The fourth round in connection with the Carterton Club’s rink competitions to find the champion rink to represent the club in the Centre fixture, was played on Saturday afternoon and in each instance the games were won by a fair margin of points. Afternoon tea was provided by Mesdames T. G. Underhill and W. Foster and very kindly presided over by Miss Walker.

The following are the results: — Kilmister, Newbould, DeLacey, Hughan (s) beat Carmine (sub), Harris, W. Hart, Beale (s), 29/13. Callender, Underhill, Bain (sub), G. Hart (s) beat Boyne, Bird, Williams, Simmonds (s), 24/15.

Smith, Harrington, Thompson, Riggs (s) beat Lynch, Matson, Kruse, Stent (s), 21/16.

Stevens, Robertson, Barr, Tucker (s) beat Steven (sub), A. Thompson, Dr. Budd, Whyte (s), 23/16. Bath, Hill, Gaze, Harp (s) defeated Savill, Pearson, Foster, Hawker' (s), 17/16. in a friendly game.

CRICKET MATCH.

CARTERTON DEFEAT MASTERTON

The Masterton junior cricket eleven journeyed to Carterton on Saturday and met the Carterton eleven in a knock-out competition for the DarvillIllingworth Shield. Winning the toss, the Carterton captain decided to take first strike, Ewing and Byers facing the trundling of Brice and Reid. They carried the score to 42 before the first wicket fell. Thompson, Harp and Kennedy made 50 between them, Harp being top scorer for his side with 22 to his credit. The innings ended with-a total of 119. Masterton were disposed of for 30 runs, being unable to stand up to the bowling of Ewing and Berry. The following are scores: — CARTERTON. First Innings. The ball came back to the bowler, who took it with the right hand and was warmly applauded. Wairarapa P. and A. Society. The Wairarapa P. and A. Society will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday next. At the same meeting, Mr W. A. lorns will address members on information obtained and impressions gained, on his trip abroad as they relate to the welfare of farmers in New Zealand. Motor Car Collision. On Saturday afternoon, a motor car, which was being driven south, and a motor lorry emerging from Belvedere Street came into collision at the intersection. No one was injured and very little damage was sustained by either vehicle. Destruction by Opossums. ' Orchards that are in the vicinity of the Tararua range are being pretty extensively damaged by the depredations of opossums. Mr. A. Woolf Farewelled. Mr A. Woolf, one of the best known and most popular personalities in the Wairarapa, who will leave this week to take over the managership of an hotel in Levin, was entertained at a farewell party at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Steffert on Saturday night. Personal. Mr. Norman Boyne, Postmaster, of Carterton, accompanied by his wife and family, left on Saturday night for Palmerston North on a fortnight’s holiday. Mr D. Gibb Johnston left Carterton today to visit his parents, Dr. and Mrs D. G. Johnston, of Sumner. Mr Warick Lawrence, sub-editor of the "Mirror," who has been spending the holidays with his parents, Mr and Mrs J. A. B. Lawrence, Park Road, returned to Auckland today.
