AMAZING five set match EDWARDS BEATS MAYSON. DOUBLES TO POOLE SISTERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 6. j N. V. Edwards, the 26-year-old Wei-’ lington champion, and H. A. Barnett (Canterbury), will fight out the final of the New Zealand men’s singles championship at Wilding Park tomorrow. Edwards came through an amazing five-set match with J. T. Mayson (Auckland), who. after winning the first two sets, had three successive match points at 5-4 in the third, and two more match points again in a long fifth set. Barnett, even more persistent and tenacious than usual. • wore down his opponent, C. Angus, in the other semi-final, and won 'a long, hardfought match after losing the first and second sets. CHRISTCHURCH, January 6. , The Canterbury women’s lawn tennis team to defend the Kathleen Nunneley Casket against Wellington at Wilding Park on Monday and Tuesday was chosen today as follows:—Misses T. Poole, I. Poole. D. Dickey and H, Elsom. Emergency. Miss K. Armstrong. The selectors made their choice on performances in the Canterbury and New Zealand championships tournaments and on form in ranking list and club matches.
They were unable to decide on the fourth place and they matched Miss Elsom and Miss Armstrong in a special match yesterday morning, Miss Elsom winning 6/3, 4/6, 6/4.

In a blaze of glorious summer sunshine, the curtain was rung down on the New Zealand lawn tennis championships at Wilding Park this afternoon. A large gallery- watched some of the leading players of New Zealand and of Australia fighting out the finals of the championship events. The New Zealand Men’s Plate final was also played.
