In the eleven tn round of the chess championship, A. W. Gyles (New Zealand) defeated R. Ward (New South Wales). Koshnitsky defeated Crowl, and with one round to play has an unassailable lead.

Purdy lost his third game when he was defeated by the Victorian Watson, and with two unfinished games to play can at best only tie for second place with Watson.
