It happened in an Irish police court. An old offender was summoned for being drunk and disorderly. “Ten shillings or a fortnight," said the magistrate. “But. sir, I’ve only got two shillings in the world,” said the prisoner, "Well, you must go to gaol. If you hadn't spent the money on drink you would have been able to pay the fine.”
The Railway Department announces that the'next of their attractive weekend excursions to Frankton Junction and Auckland has been arranged for the weekend January 13-16. The excursion train will leave Wellington on the Friday night and arrives al Auck-
land on Saturday morning. The return train will leave Auckland at 3.5 p.m. on Sunday and arrive at Wellington at 6.33 a.m. on Monday. The fares are at a cheap rate with free reservation of' seats. The excursion covers all stations in the Manawatu, Wauaiapa and Hawke's Bay dictricts.
