FAT LAMB PRICES
FURTHER DROP IN SCHEDULE
MUTTON REMAINS UNALTERED.
Prices for lamb in the Wairarapa have been affected by a further reduction in the export schedule, bringing the value of first quality lamb down to 7‘d. This compares with an opening rate of Bjd per lb., which was l.|d less than was paid at the same time in the previous season. The schedule price which had ruled for some time past and has now been reduced was 71d, and it was thought by many that this figure would be adhered to for some time to come. The reduction, it is understood, took effect from yesterday.
Recently it has been suggested that an increase had been made in the export schedule for wethers. Enquiries made into the position, however, reveal the fact that wethers remain at 18s. the figure at which the killing season for mutton was commenced, but that an allowance of Is is to be made in respect to quality wethers carrying good slipe. ' As far as can be ascertained there is no alteration to the schedule for ewes, which remains at the opening rate of 9s.
