DEFICIT FOR HALF-YEAR
PUBLIC DEBT NEARLY 40,000 MILLION DOLLARS.

mown for the first half of the 1938-1939 fiscal year of 1.601.000.000 dollars, compared with 552,000.000 dollars for the corresponding period of 1937-1938. The public debt is now 39,427.000 000 dollars, lornpared with 37.275.000 000 dollars a year ago.
