MR SIDNEY RAY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.45 p.m.) LONDON. January 3. Obituary, Mr Sidney Ray. Mr Ray, who was born in England in 1858, became an elementary school teacher, but later took up anthropological study and research and specialised in iihgiiisti.es. He visited Torres Straits. New Guinea and Borneo with a Cambridge expedition in 1898-99. He was a Fellow of the Anthropological Institute, an honorary M.A. of Cambridge and honorary life governor of the British and Foreign Bible Society. He was the author of numerous works dealing with Melanesian languages.
