TENNIS TITLES

NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY

MEN'S & WOMEN'S PLATE EVENTS. FINE WEATHER CONTINUES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. The men's and women's plate events were advanced a further stage when the New Zealand Lawn Tennis championships were continued at Wilding Park today. Two quarter-final matches in the men’s championship singles were set down for this afternoon while progress was also made with the doubles championships. The weather is again warm, with a north-easterly breeze when play began. Warm but pleasant conditions prevailed when the Plate matches commenced. These produced flashes of first class tennis although the CoriehSharpe game was hardly up to New Zealand championship standard. Corich dropped the first four games of the match but from then on he gave the Hawke's Bay man very few chances. Cnee again C. F. Penfold had the experience of taking his opponent, J. C. Robertson in this instance, to the deciding set and then losing the match. £. S. Falconer did not have things all nis own way against R. J. Donkin, but Miss J. Douthett, a Wellington representative player, was altogether too good for the Canterbury junior, Miss C. Chester, who yet managed to make the match interesting. Additional results are:—.
