FOREIGN OFFICE VIEW
ARRESTS CONSIDERED HIGHLY > IMPROPER. EXPLANATION DEMANDED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, January 3. The Foreign Office has received confirmation from Burgos of the arrest of Mr Golding and his wife. The charges are unknown. The arrests are regarded as highly improper, although Mr Golding is not entitled to full diplomatic privileges. The Government is considering sending counsel from London on behalf of Mr Golding. It is not yet known how Mr Golding is connected with the dispatch of the diplomatic bag. His duties normally were in the nature of those of an actuary. Possibly he was responsible for fixing the official seals. The British inquiry is still proceeding.
The British Agent in Burgos, Mr C. B. Jerram, senior diplomatic representative in the absence’of Sir Robert Hodgson through illness, has been instructed to demand an explanation of the arrests and also access to *he prisoners.
