NEW YEAR RACING

MEETINGS IN NEW ZEALAND Treble for Jeanne at Tauherenikau GREAT NORTHERN DERBY WON BY DEFAULTER MASTERTON HORSE WINS MARTON CUP The New Year Racing Carnival saw a substantial increase in the totalisator returns at the various meetings, the fine weather being responsible for large attendances. At the Wairarapa meeting, Jeanne, the Woodville-trained filly, recorded a treble, and at Marton the Masterton mare, Lady Montana, brought off a surprise by winning the Cup. The Great Northern Derby was won by Defaulter, with Beaupartir second and Peerless third, this being also the order at the finish of the N.Z. Derby at Riccarton in November last.
