DUTCH APPLE CAKE

A TASTY DISH. With apples in season, you might like this apple cake with lemon sauce: — 2 cups sifted flour 2| teaspoons baking powder ?, teaspoon salt 5 tablespoons shortening 1 egg, well beaten 2-3 cup milk 2 cups sliced apples 4 tablespoons butter 4 tablespoons sugar J teaspoon cinnamon

Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder, and salt, and sift again. Cut in shortening. Combine egg and milk and add to flour, stirring until soft dough is formed. Spread in greased shallow pan, BxB inches. Arrange apple slices on dough, dot with butter and sprinkle with mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Bake in hot oven (425 deg F) 30 to 35 minutes, or until apples are tender. Serve with Lemon Sauce. Serves 8.
