RACING’ DESCRIBED FIRST TO MOTHER-IN-LAW. Taking charge after travelling a furlong, Mother-in-Law stayed on remarkably well to win the Tawaha Handicap by a length. Earl Colossus, Le Toquet and Drachma were always well placed in the running with Gold Ballad prominent early. Mother-in-Law was two lengths to the good when the field turned for home and she staved off a determined challenge by Earl Colossus to win nicely. Drachma faded in the straight and was third two lengths back. Then came Lady Lyric and Foral Robe.

EXCITING FINISH.

There was an exciting finish to the Pirinoa Stakes, the little fancied Dorak prevailing by a head from the hot favourite Daregain. Dorak was first out and was tailed to the straight by Daregain, Gay Lord. Batsham and Telamon. Daregain made his effort at the distance but Dorak came again and stayed on to win well. Batsham was four lengths back third and Telamon fourth. Telamon was a good thing beaten. He was actually first out, was knocked back to the tail of the fieljl and then finished a good fourth.

BIG RACE TO DUNGARVAN

Dungarvan scored a fine win in the President’s Handicap, the chief event on the card. Running round to the back Cricket was showing the way from Dungarvan, Master Cyklon and Haughty Winner. Helen Ford and Mea Mea improved their positions at the half mile where Dungarvan moved up to join Cricket. Into the straight Haughty Winner was tucked in behind Dungarvan and {hen came Mea Mea and Master Cyklon. Under the whip, Dungarvan came away well to win by half a length from Haughty Winner with Galteemore, always well back, two lengths away third. The top weight Master Cyklon, was fourth.

THE FAVOURITE WINS.

First favourite Pen won the Juvenile Handicap like a good horse. Sceptre made all the early running with Pen, Endorsement, -Vascones and Sir Gru-: soe well in the picture. ■ Sir Crusoe went through very fast at the far turn and was in behind Sceptre and Endorsement when the straight was sighted. Pen had too much in hand at the business end and won by a length from Sir- Crusoe, who just beat Endorsement by a head. Counter Lunch never looked dangerous and finished fourth.

REPEAT PERFORMANCE

Jeanne scored her second win at the meeting when the judge gave her the verdict over Sigurd in the Greytown Handicap. From the press stand Sigurd looked a certain winner. Jeanne was out in front all the way with Gay Hunting, Mother-in-Law and first favourite Great Flight. Passing the half mile Golden Flame fell and brought down Happy Heels. The jockeys were well shaken Up but not seriously hurt. Sigurd and Mother-in-Law were up alongside of Jeanne when the straight was reached and in an exciting finish Jeanne was placed first a head in front of Sigurd. Great Flight was two lengths away third and then Mother-in-Law and Dancing Flame,

HINERAWE SCORES AGAIN.

After being wide out on the track nearly all the way, first favourite Hinerawe came through fast in the straight to win the Moroa Handicap from the outside fancy Larwood. Sunbeam, Earl Colossus and Mendelssohn were the pacemakers to the straight where the field bunched. Hinerawe mowed down the leaders in the run to the post to score smartly by a length. Earl Colossus was two lengths further back third and Sunbeam was fourth.

OPEN SEVEN TO EXPORT.

Placed handily throughout. Export drew out in the straight to win th; Waihenga Handicap by a length from Counterblast. When the field settled down Counterblast was in command fiom Phalanx, Export and Mister Quex, who moved up to the leader at the five furlong post. There was little alteration to the straight but at the distance Export hit the front and stayed there to win. Silver River came with a late rush to collect third money three lengths behind Counterblast and then camo Phalanx and Alunga. Accomplice ran very wide at the home turn. TREBLE TO JEANNE. Jeanne scored an end to end win in the Electric Hack Handicap. Royal Portrait and Daregain made the pace from the barrier with Accomplice and Kurrawong showing up. Into the straight Jeanne came away to win by two lengths from Daregain. who never represented serious danger, and then came Rowana, Kurrawong and Beauly. Jeanne is a good thing and will win further good races.
