General situation: Pressure remains high in the north and lias risen also over Eastern Australia but the trough of a shallow low pressure disturbance extends in a north-westerly direction across the middle portion of the South Island. Forecast, strong north-wester-ly winds to gales, later changing temporarily to south-west; weather mainly fair to cloudy but some brief showers tonight or tomorrow morn ing; temperatures moderate.
