RACING DESCRIBED NOVICE TO GOLDEN FLAME. Never further back in the running than second, Golden Flame came through at the distance to win the Novice Stakes from the fast-finishing Floral Robe. Daregain was the'pacemaker from the barrier with Golden Flame, Pirinoa and Speedfast next in order. Into the straight Daregain was still a length out from Golden Flame, Pirinoa and Ktirrawong, who ran off at the turn. Floral Robe came from the back with a rattle at the distance, but failed by a length to catch Golden Flame. Daregain stayed on to collect third money two lengths further back. Then came Telamon, Kurrawong and Speedfast. EXCITING FINISH. Export came from second to last place in the straight to score narrowly in the Featherston Handicap. After going a furlong Debham had charge from Phalanx, Counterblast and Alunga. Counterblast closed upon the leaders in the run to the post and an exciting finish ensued. Anything might have won when Export burst through on the outer to win by a head from Phalanx. Counterblast stopped badly and was two lengths away third. Ahinga, who was prominent early, was fourth and Debham next. NECK TO NECK FINISH. Royal Star II won the Wairarapa Cup after a great neck and neck finishi with Master Cyklon. When the field settled down Master Cyklon had charge from Lucullus Lad, Royal Star II and Night Hawk. Tiger Gain made a sharp forward move passing the seven furlong post and the order at the half-mile was Lucullus Lad, Tiger Gain. Master Cyklon and Helen Ford. Wild Chase was tailing the field. There was little alteration to the-home turn, where the field closed up. While the leaders were fighting out a desperate finish Master Cyklon came through and then Royal Star H sneaked through a gap to mow down Master Cyklon and win by a neck. 11 was his fourth win in twelve mouths. Tig<-r Gain was third two lengths back and Helen Ford wa.. foili Th.
