New Dredge.

It is expected that the pontoon of the Ngahere Gold Dredging Company’s dredge on the terrace between Moonlight and Blackball will be ready for launching early in the new year. Sev-enty-two men are engaged on the work and huge quantities of steel and machinery have been conveyed to the site of the dredge. Good progress is being made with the actual constructional work. The pontoons are of steel plates rivetted and the dredge is to be electrically driven.

Physical Culture. “Physical culture and proficiency in games are being developed on a mass scale in Europe. In the military colleges of Italy and France, in particular, these courses are compulsory,” said Mr Geza Szekany, a Hungarian, who has been a manager, director of sport, and physical culture expert for many years, when he arrived at Auckland. After spending the last year in England he is visiting New Zealand to see the sporting activities of the Dominion. Mrs Szekany, who accompanied him, is a former Auckland girl who is visiting her home town after an absence of more than 10 years. She is a daughter of the late Mr W. J. Ralph, of Auckland, and has lived in Hungary, Austria, France, England, and other countries since leaving New Zealand.
