HAYMAKING OPERATIONS
PLENTY OF LABOUR AVAILABLE. ASSURANCE BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) • AUCKLAND, December 29, “I am assured .by my officers that every applicant for labour for haymaking has been supplied,” said the Minister of Labour. Mr Webb, in replying to a Waikato report that difficulty was being experienced in obtaining sufficient labour to carry out operations rapidly. “My officers,” said the Minister, “guarantee to supply every man required for harvesting. There is definitely no shortage, and I am amazed that such a statement should emanate from Waikato.
“As men are required for harvesting they will be transferred from scheme 13. There are more men available than will be required. All that is asked is reasonable time for the transfer of the men. I have spoken to Farmers’ Union officials, and they have agreed to cooperate with me.”
