SUMMER CUP TO OUTSIDER. A WIN FOR PALUSTRE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 28. Under ideal conditions, and with a fast track, the Auckland Racing Club staged the second day of its summer meeting today. There was a large attendance. The totalisator handled £57,868. compared with £50,453 last year, an increase of £7415. For the two days the total is £171.993 10s, compared with £166.294 10s, an increase of £6699..The King’s Plate produced a thrilling finish, and victory went to Smoke Screen by half a head from the oddson favourite Stretto, the pair being locked together over the last half- . furlong with Gay Son and Beaupartir (outside) also well in the picture. The race was run at a fast pace, thanks to Te Hero making play over the first five furlongs in 59, and the winner ran a New Zealand mile record of 1.35 3-5. The three-year-old Royevrus was responsible for a surprise in winning the Summer Cup, which provided a most spectacular finish with the first six horses in a bunch.
