SHARP REMINDER

AMERICA WARNS JAPAN.

DEFENCE OF NATIONAL INTERESTS.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON. December 27.

The Tokio correspondent of the British United Press has learned that Mr H. C. Grew, the American Ambassador, sharply reminded Japan about United States of America interests in China, declaring that the United States of America is more interested in results than in plans and insisted that Washington is still not satisfied with the Japanese reply to America's protest against Japanese discrimination against foreign shipping in the Yang-tze-Kiang.

Mr Arita is reported to have replied in a conciliatory tone, declaring that the diversified authority in China hitherto had prevented a satisfactory solution of questions involving China and third Powers, and that the new centralised organisation was improving ihe position.
