WOOL CHEQUE

FIRST WELLINGTON SALES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Proceeds of the first Wellington wool sale of this season, held on December 7. totalled £349,523, compared with £283,926 for the corresponding sale of last year and £650,663 for that of 1936. At this month’s sale 22,757 bales were sold, compared with 18,445 bales at the first sale last year and 29,792 bales at the December sale of 1936. The Wellington wool cheque of £349,523 for 22,757 bales compares with Auckland’s £339,896 for 24,028 bales and Christchurch’s £312,058 for 23,370 bales. The total offering at the first Wellington sale was 23,890 bales, of which 22,757 bales, or 95.257 per cent, were sold, 1133 bales being passed in. The net weight of the wool sold was 8,283,4241 b, as against 6,530,667 bales at the December sale of last year. The average price a bale works out at £l5 7s 2d, compared with £l5 7s lOd in December, 1937, and the average price a lb was 10.127 d, compared with 10.434 d a year ago.
