.CHRISTMAS TREE PARTY. ANNUAL ENTERTAINMENT (“Times-Age” Special.) The children of Eketahuna and district were entertained the other night by the Noble Grand and members of the Odd Fellows’ Lodge. There were over 100 children present, who together with their .parents, filled the hall. The Christmas tree, very beautifully embellished with sparkling decorations, coloured lights, balloons and toys furnished a festive atmosphere. Items given by the children and neartily applauded, filled the first stage of the programme. Father Christmas together with Jimmy, his assistant, arrived promptly on time and after a few cheerful words to the young folk began his lengthy task of distributing the large array of gifts, assisted by Jimmy, who was dressed as a clown. The children were allowed as many ice creams, soft drinks and sweets., during the evening as they wished. Supper was enjoyed by young and old. Inter-School Sport, A team of pupils from the Pahiatua District High School visited Eketahuna last week, to compete with the Eketahuna High School at cricket and swimming. In the cricket match Eketahuna were successful in winning by a few runs, while Pahiatua won the swimming by a comfortable margin. Results are as under: — Cricket—Pahiatua, first innings, 31; second innings, 71; Eketahuna, first in ning, 33; second innings, 74. Swimming results —Girls, 25yds freestyle: M. Britland (Pahiatua), 1, J. Britland (Pahiatua), 2, M. Miller (Pahiatua), 3. Girls’ dive: M. Britland (Pahiatua), 1, J. Britland (Pahiatua) 2. Boys' 25yds freestyle: E. Staples (Pahiatua) 1, D. Goggin (Eketahuna) 2, D. Mitchell (Pahiatua) 3. Boys’ 50 yards freestyle: E. Staples (Pahiatua) 1, D. Goggin (Eketahuna) 2, D. Mitchell (Pahiatua), 3. Boys’ relay (each boy swimming 25 yards): Pahiatua (E. Staples, I. Watts and D. Mitchell) 1, Eketahuna 2. Boys’ dive: D. Fraser (Eketahuna) 1, I. Madsen (Pahiatua) 2, D. Goggin (Eketahuna) 3. I Madsen (Pahiatua) gave an exhibition of 25 yards breaststroke, being paced by D. Goggin (Eketahuna). Personal. The Misses Foss (Wellington) will spend Christmas at the home of their sister, Mrs W. O. Twentyman, Hukanui. Mr A. L. Wilson, headmaster of the Eketahuna District High school, and Mrs Wilson and their son and daughterleave for Taihape on Saturday evening. Mrs Dysart, assistant teacher at the Nireaha’ school, will spend Christmas in Napier and later will go on a motor tour of the North Island. Mr C. K. Scott, of Eketahuna, has receive an appointment as assistant master at the Muritai school, Wellington. Mr Duncan, headmaster of the Nireaha school, Mrs Duncan and family will spend the holidays on a motor tour of the South Island. Mrs Hamilton, who has resigned from the Eketahuna District High School staff will, after the school holidays, act assistant at a Maori school in North Auckland at which her husband has been appointed headmaster.
