HIBERNIAN LODGE

VISIT FROM FATHER CHRISTMAS. AN ENJOYABLE OCCASION. The annual festivities of the Hibernian Lodge took place in St. Patrick's Hall last night, there being a very large attendance of children and adults. The .arrangements for the function were complete to the smallest detail, and those responsible are to be congratulated in connection therewith. A large Christmas tree heavily laden with toys of a substantial and useful character stood on the stage in the hall and from this Father Christmas, who was warmly greeted by the children, handed out gifts to each child. This having been completed Father Christmas presented sweet bouquets to Mesdames.J. Connors, Ethel Carry, R. Cross, Misses N. Moore, M. Diggins, Joan Gleeson and Joyce Cross, and gifts to Father Moore, Messrs J. Connors, S. Herbert, W. Brady, Ray Cross, J. Curry and W.McArley. The lodge made presentations to Sister Brady, of Auckland, and Mr Carry. Bro. W. McArley on behalf of the children handed a gift to Father Christmas, who was later the centre of a lolly scramble. Balloons were handed to the children 'who then had a hectic time, enjoying themselves to their heart’s content. Later the children were entertained by the members of the Lodge at supper, the same hospitality later being extended to the adults.' Further games by the children followed and subsequently the children left for home tired perhaps, but having had an exceptionally enjoyable time as the guests of the Hibernian Lodge. Father Christmas continued on his way to another function, being given a rousing send off by cheering children. The party was one ot the most successful ever held by the Lodge, the officers and their wives, sons, daughters and lady friends doing everything possible to provide an enjoyable time for the children which they fully succeeded in doing. The Lodge has performed excellent service among the sick members and the children during the past year, and in this connection stands amongst the foremost of the many Hibernian lodges in New Zealand.
