MASTERTON SALE N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd., report: We held our usual weekly sale yesterday when a fair entry of sheep came forward, and was submitted to a small attendance. Fat sheep remained at late rates while very little interest was taken in the few stores. The following were the prices: Sheep: —Fat wethers 20s 9d; fat ewes 12s; light b.f. 2-ths, 14s to 12s; fat lambs 20s 3d, 21s to 21s 6d; store ewes, 8s to 8s 6d; 4-th wethers, 17s 9d; 2-th wethers (passed), 15s 3d. F. C. D. COMPANY LTD. The N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Co Ltd. report: —We offered moderate yardings of sheep and cattle to a small attendance. The following are some of our realisations: —Fat wethers, 18s 6d, fat ewes 10s to Ils, ewes and lambs, 10s all counted, runners, £4 7s 6d; vealers, £2; yearling Red Poll steers, £3 9s; light porkers, £1 16s; weaner pigs, 20s. ADDINGTON GOOD SALE FOR FAT STOCK. PRICE SCHEDULE EXCEEDED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 21. Today’s market at Addington was a double one in view of the holiday, and the next market will be held on January 4. There was a good sale for all classes of fat stock. Store sheep: A small entry, mostly wethers, and of better class, sold at full late rates. Fat lambs: About 3000 were penned, and it was the best showing of quality this year. There was a keen sale from the outset, butchers paying a good B|d for best lambs, and exporters exceeding the schedule price on occasions. The top price was 31s lOd, but a big proportion of the lambs sold at from 23$ to 255.
Fat sheep: A heavy entry of 6500 head, and the sale over the earlier part was Is 6d a head better than a week ago. In the later stages values eased to last week’s level, but the big penning was well competed for throughout. Exporters competed up to 19s for wethers. The best of the wethers made from 22s to 245, tops to 26s lOd, medium 18s to 21s; ewes, 18s to 21s, tops to 225, medium 15s 6d to 17s 6d, light down to 9s. Fat cattle: 470 were penned, and they were of excellent quality for the greater part. Prime mediumweight beef improved by 10s to 15s a head, other sorts being unaltered. Best beef made from £1 16s to £1 18s, tops a shade higher. The top price was £l7 7s 6d. Good steers brought £l4 10s to £l6 10s, light down to £lO 10s; best heifers £l3 12s 6d, good £lO to £11; best cows, to £l2 2s 6d, good £9 to £lO. Only porkers were offered in the fat pig section, and the sale showed an average improvement of 3s a head. Prices a pound were from 6Jd to 7.? d.
