NAVAL SLOOPS

CRUISE TO AUSTRALIA IN NEW YEAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 21. A cruise to Australia will be made early in the new year by the Imperial escort vessels Leith and Wellington. This will be the second such cruise made by the Vessels, the first having been made toward the beginning of this year when they went to Sydney to be fitted with extra equipment before continuing on their normal winter patrol cruises of the south Pacific Islands under British and Dominion jurisdiction. Before they go to Australia the vessels will make short cruises of the New Zealand ports and will then sail for Australia in company. The cruises will be the first made by the escort vessels under the new command. The Leith has already been taken over from Captain Tudway by Commander Waymouth and the Wellington's present captain. Commander Lor-iston-Clarke. will be relieved early in the new year by Commander HydeI Smith, who is to arrive at Auckland jby the Otranto on January G from . England.
