YACHTING CHAMPIONSHIP

AUSTRALIAN BOATS TO COMPETE. CONTEST AT AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 19. A cable has been received from the secretary of the Sydney 18-footers Sailing League confirming the statement that an agreement has been reached with Brisbane clubs and that the 18-foot world’s championship will be sailed at Auckland in February. While in Sydney recently, Mr George Dennes, Auckland, arranged that four of Sydney’s fastest 18-footers, Taree. Eileen, Malvina and St. George, and crews, should arrive at Auckland by the Awatea on February 13 to compete for the New Zealand championship. The question of the world championship in Auckland was raised in Australia, but Brisbane clubs objected on the grounds that the race should be sailed in the State that last won the race, which is New South Wales. The Sydney Sailing League took up the question with Brisbane with the satisfactory result indicated.
