WILD CHASE RIGHT FOR WAIRARAPA

(By “The Cynic.”)

For several years past, there have been some horses from Riccarton. at the Manawatu Racing Club’s summer meeting, after which some have wound up at Wairarapa, while others have done Marton or Stratford. This will be the programme this season for horses from several stables. They will go north on Monday night. For several seasons H. and A. Cutts have sent a team to Manawatu and Wairarapa. This year A. Cutts will take three horses, with excellent prospects. Wild Chase, the star of the party, is top weight in the Manawatu Cup. ..He has his full share of weight and will require to be-at his best to beat some of those lower down, the Oaks winner, Peerless, being one that seems w.ej'l treated at 7st. 81b. At the same time, it has to be recalled that Wild Chase was a top class three-year-old, and thought he lost form last season, his recent running is evidence that he is on the way to good deeds again. If all goes well with him, he looks certain to pay his way on the trip.

■ Sprinter of Party. Counterblast, the sprinter of the party, won at Trentham and then ran third in the Stewards’ Handicap. On this form she looks like paying her way, though she will meet stout opposition at Awapuni. Laughing Lass is one to be kept in mind, while Florence Mills, now in receipt of 111 b., beat Counterblast, receiving 51b. on the first day at Trentham.. This was in a hack race, after which the Riccarton mare won in open company. The third member of the Clifford team is Great Flight, a promising hack, with recent track form to suggest that she is on the way to better deeds. A. G. Parsons will accompany this team as the rider. C. C. McCarthy may have four in his team, or only three, depending on the final decision about Argentic. If he misses Auckland, he may get some money at Awapuni and Stratford, as his recent track form has been good. Rabble is an improver, requiring only average luck to pay his way. The three-year-old, Improvident, may never be more than moderate, as he lacks stamina, but his speed will help him in some of his five furlong engagements. He and Rabble are due to wind up at Stratford. Haughty Winner, the remaining member of the team will finish the trip at the Wairarapa meeting, where his Wellington owner will have a chance to see him race. He is very well and there are not many Riccarton horses with better holiday prospects.

Chance Among Hacks. J. Campbell will have two horses in his care. Lady Rosette did not race up to expectations at Riccarton, but her form before then and again later, was attractive. She can stay and there are hack races at Manawatu and Wai-

rarapa to give her a great chance. Her mate, Night Hawk, has developed wayward habits on the track, but is a good galloper up to a mile and should pay his way. F. A. Roberts has Phalanx in good order and his owner, Mr D. Spence, may have a successful trip with this hack. Some of his failures early in the season were expensive, but he has made, steady improvement and he is at his best now. Northern Trip. Mrs J. Campbell, with Willie Win. and F. A. Roberts, with Defaulter, have left on their way to the Auckland meeting. Both these horses were in great fettle when they departed from Riccarton. S. Barr left Linguist behind when he came back after his recent trip to the North Island. She was placed under the care of D. McCauley at Trentham, to be raced at one of the holiday meetings, after which she will remain for highweight events at the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting next month. Lady Montana’s Chance. Lady Montana’s form at Woodville was very satisfactory in .view of the immediate future. She appears to be in better order than at any previous state, and she is likely to win a good handicap before very long. White Rajah, the maiden in the same stable, is on the improve. Divided Team. M. Conza will have six horses in his care when he leaves for the West Coast holiday circuit. Roy Bun, Skyrena, Rebel Rank and Al by will be raced at Hokitika, after which the trainer will bring Roy Bun and Skyrena back for Waikouaiti and Oamaru, while Rebel Rose and Philabun will assist the other pair at Greymouth and Reefton. Another Trial. When he returns from his holiday trip to the North Island early next month, C. C. McCarthy will take the steeplechaser, Sky Pilot, in hand again. The horse has had a spell for a year and a half, and he has just concluded a season at the stud. If he stands a preparation, he should do well as a cross country performer next
