COLLEGE CRICKET

CHRIST'S BEAT WANGANUI.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, December 19.

Christ's College beat Wanganui College School by four wickets in a cricket match which was finished today on the collegiate grounds. The wicket was tricky all day. Wanganui put up a good showing in the face of a 112-run deficit on the first innings and batted solidly for a total of 160 for the second innings, which left Christ's College to score 49 runs to win. A sensation came when Christ’s who had scored 30 for the loss of no wickets, were six down for 40. However, the needed runs were scored without further wickets falling, and Wanganui’s hopes were dashed again. The finest all-round performance was put up by Wanganui Collegiate’s captain. P. M. Reynolds, who scored 3', and took five wickets for 12 runs today. Again the Christ’s College fielding was excellent, specially that of H. W. Fisher.' Their bowling was strong, A. B. Barnsdale and H. H. Lawrence maintaining a good length and keeping the batsmen tied up. A. Renshaw, who went in for Wanganui when they had two wickets down for seven in the second innings, gave a spirited display and scored a bright 35 when it was needed badly. R. F. Mackie (36) also made a useful contribution. C. M. Hockin, who was tenth on the batting list, hit the only six of the match and scored 27 in 17 minutes. NELSON DEFEATED. NEW PLYMOUTH, December 19. New Plymouth Boys’ High School beat Nelson College in the annual cricket match by an innings and 205 runs. New Plymouth made 397 for seven wickets, declared. Nelson in the first innings made 129, Diprose taking five wickets for 45. The last Nelson wicket in the second innings fell at 63 in the last over of the day, Moran taking seven wickets for 30.
