MAURICEVILLE
SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT (“Times-Age” Special.) A large number of parents and friends assembled at the Mauriceville school on Tuesday afternoon, when there was a display of work and a most enjoyable entertainment was given by the pupils. Mr Robertson, M.P., in the' course of his remarks, congratulated the head teacher on the high standard of work being done, and on behalf of the school committee he presented each pupil with a Christmas gift, and the special prizes awarded in the Agricultural Club. Alison Cameron succeeded in winning the judging competition held in connection with the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club. Mr Sykes presented the swimming certificates gained by Ron Bray, Varde Nikolaison, Richard Meredith, Heather Macdonald, Alison Cameron and Esme Rossiter.
A presentation from the school committee was made to Mrs Childs.
Members of the school committee present were Messrs Mac Govern (chairman), Milner and Faine. Apologies for absence were received from Mr A. Donald, member of the Education Board, and Mr A. Wilkin, a member of the school committee. Mr Robertson also apologised for the unavoidable absence of Mrs Robertson. Mr Robertson explained that there would be a delay in rebuilding the school, as the department were calling for fresh tenders.
The school committee was congratulated on the interest taken in the school. Afternoon tea provided by the ladies of the district brought a very successful afternoon to a close. Tennis Club Dance. An annual event which is greatly looked forward to is the Mauriceville Tennis Club’s dance which will be held on Boxing night, Monday December 26, in the Mauriceville hall. The secretary and committee promise visitors an enjoyable time and with this end in view have engaged Udy’s dance band. The programme will include novelty dances. The fioor and the supper will leave nothing to be desired. ■Prolonged Earthquake. An earthquake lasting nearly a minute was felt on Thursday night, but as far as can be ascertained no damage resulted. Personal. Mrs P. E. Mortensen of Mauriceville West, is' spending a holiday in the North Auckland district.
