P. & A. AFFAIRS

MEETING OF WAIRARAPA SOCIETY. NO WELLINGTON DONATION. * ("Times-Age” Special.) Mr R. R. Tilson, a vice-president presided at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society, held at Carterton today. There was a fair attendance of members. The treasurer, Mr G. Brown, reported a credit balance of £1072 4s Bd. Receipts since last meeting amounted to £430 2s 9d and accounts amounting to £279 17s were passed. It was decided to write thanking Mr A. Robottom for foregoing his judge’s expenses.

The Wellington Provincial Wholesale Merchants’ Association wrote stating that it had been decided to cease giving donations. With the rapidly increasing overhead charges, it was stated. and the restrictions in trade, it was inevitable that some reduction in outgoings would have to be made and the elimination of donations was one of the several steps to reduce charges which members had found it imperative to make.

"It is a very fine gesture and indicates the value placed on the society and the Shows by Mr Tocker,” remarked Mr Brown when referring to a bequest of £lOO by the late Mr Arthur Tocker, Featherston. The money is to be used to purchase a silver challenge cup and a miniature each year for competition in a class for a pen of five one-shear Romney ewes most, suitable for the building up of a Romney stud flock. The cup cannot be won outright, but the miniature becomes the property of the winners each year. Three new members were elected and three resignations were received. The question of appointing a member to fill the vacancy on the Board of Management of the Wairarapa Training Farm, caused by the death of Mr Q. Donald, was deferred to a later meeting.

It was reported that Mr W. A. lorns would address the next meeting of the society in January.

The chairman extended Christmas greetings to members.

It was decided to forward a letter of sympathy to Mr V. L. Robinson in his illness.

Motions of condolence were passed with the relatives of the late Messrs A. Tocker, J. B. Keith and W. T. Masson, who were all loyal members and exhibitors over a long period of years.
