AMATEUR ATHLETICS

MASTERTON CLUB. NOTES AND COMMENTS. (By “Spikes.”) F. Missen is starting to show form but should spend more time making himself perfect in starting. L. Saunders made his first appearance in the pole vault. A habit of stopping in the air can be overcome. P. Ryan is turning out a good sprinter this season. J. Crisp is showing good form in Dole vaulting hut he should try a longer run and a bit more pace. A. Thompson is as game as they make them; he gi.?es everything a go. A. Wephy is a good tryer. Up to the present it appears that he has not been treated too lightly by the handicapper for so early in the season. R. Wyeth ran well over the 830 yards but is short of training. J. Wickens does not seem to get going. He is a good sport and always ready to try. J. Watt has not struck form yet. He is always ready to help the younger competitors in their training. W. Pullar is running into form nicely. His half-mile in 2min 4sec off scratch speaks for itself. It looks as if R. A. Rose’s time for the mile will be broken by this runner. C Pringle is rapidly getting into form.

The Mastertcn Club has a membership of over 35 competitors, and the committee extend a welcome to new competitors.
