GROWING DEMANDS OF WAR IN CHINA STRAIN CANNOT BE BORNE INDEFINITELY. BRITISH GENERAL’S VIEW. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright SINGAPORE, December 15. “Japan’s army commanders are worried men,” declared Major-General Bartholomew, General Officer Commanding the British forces in China, who is going to England. “If Chiang Kai-shek continues to draw the Japanese inland, they will find it increasingly difficult to maintain their communications. “Japan cannot afford indefinitely . to keep a large standing army in China. Japan will never win while Chiang Kai-shek is at the head of the Government.” SUDDEN BLOCKADE FRENCH CONCESSION IN HANKOW. FOOD & WATER SUPPLIES CUT OFF. (Received This Day, 10.2 a.m.) HONG KONG, December 15. It is reported that the Japanese, without explanation, have instituted what amounts to a blockade of the French Concession in Hankow, preventing the entrance of food and disconnecting the water supply. Stocks of both these are low.
