“The best motoring road I have seen in New Zealand.” was the praise accorded the Lewis Pass road from a scenic point of view by Mrs C. G. Stetseberg, of Sydney, who is at present visiting Christchurch. Accompanied "by her husband, she visited the Franz Josef Glacier. “It was a nerve-wracking experience,” said Mrs Stetseberg, commenting on the trip over the pass, made in a light car, taking 13£ hours. The Otira road was closed, so the trip was made over the Lewis Pass, with heavy rain all the way, while several rivers were up.
