EKETAHUNA

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Mayor (Mr W. Simpson) presided over the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council. The dog tax was fixed at 10s for pets and 2s 6d for working dogs. A resolution was passed dealing with the cutting of noxious weeds in the Borough. The Town Clerk (Mr B. Dinnan) reported:—District Fund Account, dr. £1162 9s 7d; Domain Account, cr. £l5 16s 8d; rate arrears, £326 6s 9d; cemetery, £22; library, £l. The Reserves and Cemetery Committee reported as follows: —Very litwork has been done on the reserves this month ,as the workmen have been engaged on the motor camp and elsewhere. The. grass at the cemetery should be cut before Christmas as it will soon be seeding. When the workmen are up at the cemetery they could give the entrance gate a coat of paint. When labour is available, the dead timber, etc., needs clearing at the Swing Bridge Bush. Motorists Camping Ground. Work at the Motorists’ Camping Ground and the Domain Grandstand is progressing very favourably and should be completed before the Christmas holidays. Art Union. The Eketahuna Borough Council has made application to the Minister of Internal Affairs to conduct an Art Union to help defray expenses in connection with the motor camp. The following prizes have been allotted: —Ist prize £7 in alluvial gold, 2nd prize £3 in alluvial gold, 3rd prize, trophies to the value of £2. The Council has deposited the sum of £lO at the Bank of New South Wales for the two cash prizes and Crs Marenzi, Priest and Ryan have donated trophies to the value of £2 for the third prize. Personal. \ Mr Paulsen, of Waimakariri, who has been on a visit to his sister, Mrs Petersen, snr, Stanley Street, has left for Gisborne.

At the monthly meeting of the Borough Council, the Mayor referred to the death of Mr T. Bedding, who, he said, had rendered splendid service as Town Clerk over a long period of years. A vote of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr Bedding was carried.
