PREPARATION OF HOMES IN AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, December 2. Preparations for the reception of Australia’s Royal Governor-General-designate, the Duke of Kent, continue to arouse public interest. A spacious nursery and playroom will be features of Government House at Canberra, when it is remodelled to accommodate the Duke and Duchess of Kent. These will be for the two young children of the Royal pair. Remodelling of the residence, at a cost of £25,000, will include the addition of a ballroom, enlarged dining and reception rooms, and extensive private and staff quarters. Work on the new additions will start within three months. The Minister for Works, Mr H. V. C. Thorby, will be in Melbourne this weekend to make preliminary inquiries for a residence there for the.
