ESPERANTO CONGRESS
NINTH IN NEW ZEALAND. The ninth New Zealand Esperanto Congress will take place under the auspices of the New Zealand Esperanto Association at Wellington during the New Year holidays. Arrangements have been completed for the congress to commence on New Year’s Eve and to extend over the two following days. The assemblage will, it is anticipated, include club representatives, International Association delegates, individual visiting Dominion Esperantists and others. Features of the’ congress will be the presence of at least three eminent overseas Esperantists—Messrs Lanti (France), Major (Hungary) and Hugai (Austria); and the representation of about ten different nationalities in New Zealand.
The official programme will comprise a ceremonious opening, four business sessions (one of which, also a lecturettc session, will be conducted entirely in Esperanto), a concert and social gathering, a sight-seeing excursion and other functions.
With headquarters in Wellington and under the patronage of the Hon. J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., Chancellor of the University of New Zealand, the association concluded its tenth year of operation on November 30. The association is the Dominion parent body of 12 clubs, etc., and possesses a substantial membership drawn from about 80 towns. In addition, the international language has been taught in five New Zealand educational institutions during the past two years. The last previous congress was held in Christchurch twelve months ago.
