A plot to oust the Prime Minister, Mr W. L. Mackenzie King, through an alliance between the Premier of Ontario, Mr Mitchell Hepburn, and the Premier of Quebec, Mr Maurice Duplessis, is alleged' by the Minister of Transport, Mr C. D. Howe, and the Minister of Labour. Mr Norman Rogers, as a development of a feud between the eastern Premiers and the Prime Minister over the Dominion's refusal to sanction the export of electric power to the United States of America and alleged favouritism by the Dominion Government toward the agricultural provinces in the west. In denying the alleged conspiracy, Mr Hepburn states that a section of the Liberal Party has long been convinced that the leadership of the party has been drifting, uncertain, and impractical. He would not lead a revolt at the next election, but would support

The Prime Minister, in endorsing the charges of a plot, declared that opposition by Mr Hepburn and Mr Duplesses had been tolerated long enough and that it was time for a show-down. The issue must be the first matter to be discussed by the party caucus when Parliament met in January.
