KING’S BIRTHDAY
HIS MAJESTY 43 TODAY. His Majesty King George VI celebrates his 43rd birthday today, though officially the birthday holiday is ob-
served on the first Monday in June. The change was made to avoid the disturoance of the Christmas trading period, which would have occurred had the holiday been observed on December 14. A salute of 21 guns was fired from Point Jerningham, Wellington, at noon.
