Kitchen Wiring

A good kitchen must be well lighted, well wired and have a sufficient number of outlets. It is advisable to consult the local Power Board before remodelling or while the contemplated nouse is still in blueprint form. They’ll tell you the size of bulb needed in your central lighting fixture and will suggest the best fixture to use over each of your working centres. They will also advise what wiring is necessary for your lights and for your electrical appliances and for your range—if it is going to be an electric one. If you are going to purchase an electric refrigerator, have its outlet in the right place on your kitchen plan. Convenience outlets are needed over the food-preparation table or counter, not only for your mixer but for other appliances, such as a toaster, coffee maker or roaster. An outlet near the range will be needed for your mixer when you want to use it there. Permanent wiring is needed for the installation of the electric dishwasher and garbage-disposal unit, a convenience you may want to consider if you are planning an up-to-the-minute kitchen. Don’t forget an outlet for your electric clock, wall or standing; and —as a final luxury note —for your kitchen radio.
