IVI cc. i iin la lln ivimo i I win. GOOD WORK AMONG SCHOOLS. A well attended meeting of the Navy League was held yesterday, Miss B. Vallance presiding in the absence ol the president. Subscriptions due to the Wellington branch were passed for payment. Mrs A. Caselberg, Mrs A. W. Don, Miss C. Cameron and Miss Sellar were appointed delegates to attend the Navy League conference which is to be held in Wellington on February 3 to meet Earl Beatty, who will be paying a short visit to New Zealand early in the year. It was reported that there has been increased interest shown in the work of the Navy League during the year. Over 40 new members have been enrolled. School membership, too, has been most encouraging, numbering 323 as compared with 176 in 1937. Most schools have shown increased numbers. St Matthew’s school, Hadlow Preparatory School and Matahiwi have maintained their 100 per cent membership, and St Patrick’s School has shown its interest by enrolling 102 members, and gaining the Union Jack which is presented by the Wellington branch to schools enrolling 100 members for the first time. Arrangements will be made for the presentation ceremony at St Patrick’s school early in the first term in 1939. The school membership for 1938 is St Patrick’s school 102, Solway College 79, St Matthew’s School 62, Hadlow 38, Fernridge 18, Matahiwi 7. Mauriceville West 6, Newman 4, Miscellaneous 7. Books and magazines are being collected for the Sailors’ Mission in Wellington and will be forwarded this week.
