HAIR LOVES THE SUNSHINE
TONICS AND SHAMPOOS. REGULAR ATTENTION NEEDED. If the hair is to be well groomed it requires more than an occasional permanent wave. It must be regularly brushed and shampooed, and an occasional tonic should be massaged well into the scalp. Through receiving this regular attention your hair will become lustrous and full of beautiful glints. Excessive oiliness, brittleness, splitends, dandruff, and falling hair will all respond to simple treatments, so start today and improve your crowning glory. Hair which is oily and lank is very often a sign of debility or wrong diet. In either case the remedy is immediately apparent. Either consult a doctor so that the system can be toned up, or change your diet to one which does not contain so many fatty substances. At the same time, the scalp will require treatments with alcoholic tonics and frequent shampoos. Your oil ducts are over-active, and a tonic massaged well into the scalp each night and morning will do much to help correct this over-activity. • Hair which is dry and lifeless also requires a tonic, but naturally this tonic must contain oil. Mix together 2oz of castor oil and an equal quantity of glycerine. Massage well into the scalp every second night. When shampooing use an oil shampoo. Many beauty specialists now give hair reconditioning treatments, and these are exceptionally good for this .type of hair.
Do not forget that your hair loves the sunshine, and, after shampoos, and in between them if you can spare the time, you will give your hair a treat if you can sit in the sun for about 10 minutes. Run the fingers continuously through the hair so that the rays of the run will penetrate to every part of the scalp.
Scalp Massage. There is a special technique required' when applying creams or lotions to the scalp. Most people place a little of the tonic in the palm of the hand and spread it over the hair. That is not the correct method of giving a scalp treatment. You must apply your lotion as follows: first make a centre parting from the forehead to the nape of the neck and massage your tonic down this parting and well into the scalp, then from this centre parting make another Small parting running towards- your ears, and again apply the lotion. In this manner you will make numerous small partings about half an inch apart all over the head, and you cab then apply your lotion direct to the scalp without any fear of making the hair oily of greasy. Also you will be able to get the fingertips right into the scalp and thus give a good, vigorous massage with the balls of the fingers. The true importance of scalp massage is not fully realised, and, if it is carried out nightly, you will discover that falling hair, dryness, and dandruff will very often be avoided. Every night you should massage and knead your scalp until it is possible to pick up the loose skin between the fingers, and when you can do this you need’ no longer fear falling hair or baldness. If you know any men who are bald, just notice how tight the skin on the scalp really is, and then make up your mind that you will never allow your own scalp skin to become so neglected. Falling Hair.
Many women become unduly alarmed over the loss of a few hairs. This is nothing at all to worry about. You must remember that your scalp is continually shedding old hairs, and that, as the average life of a hail? is about three years, this means that you are losing thirty to forty hairs daily. This is quite normal, and it is only when the loss is abnormal that you have to worry.
As abnormal falling of the hair and dandruff are usually combined, it will be found that the one remedy is often efficacious for both complaints, and sulphur is usually the most efficient method of combating dandruff. You can make a sulphur ointment by mixing together one teaspoOnful of sulphur and one small pot of petroleum jelly, or, if a non-greasy lotion is preferred, you can add one tablespoonful of sulphur to one pint of water. As the sulphur is insoluble, care must be taken to shake the bottle well each time before using. Either of the above sulphur mixtures should be applied to the scalp nightly until all traces of the dandruff have disappeared. Even though your hair may be in good condition, it will still appreciate an occasional tonic, and this can be quite easily given by applying one of those excellent friction lotions which are now on the market.
